Graph theory which was born in the elighteenth century with the now famous "Koingsberg Bridge Problem" has now developed into a vast discipline with multifarious applications. The subject is currently studied by students in Indian universities both at the B.Sc. and M.Sc. levels.
This book is designed as an undergraduate textbook and takes the reader through the various topics in graph theory like Eulerian and Hamiltonian graphs, planarity, colouring and digraphs. Chapter 4 which deals with vector spaces associated with graphs is a novelity, rarely found in textbooks. The notes at the end of each chapter provide a historical background and further references on the topics dealt with in the chapter. A fairly exhaustive collection of exercises illustrate and elucidate the concepts the theorems.
