Amla, also known as Indian Gooseberry, is a deciduous tree native to the Indian subcontinent. It belongs to the Euphorbiaceae family and is scientifically known as *Phyllanthus emblica*. Amla is highly valued for its medicinal properties and has been used in traditional Ayurvedic medicine for centuries.
The Amla plant typically grows up to 8-18 meters in height, with a crooked trunk and spreading branches. The leaves are simple, light green, and closely set on the branches. They are oblong in shape, measuring about 1-3 centimeters in length. The flowers of the Amla plant are small, greenish-yellow, and inconspicuous. They appear in clusters along the branches.
The fruit of the Amla plant is the most sought-after part due to its numerous health benefits. It is round or spherical in shape, with a smooth and hard surface. The size of the fruit ranges from 1.5 to 3 centimeters in diameter. When ripe, the fruit turns from green to yellow-green or light yellow in color.

Amla fruits have a sour and tangy taste, which is why they are often used in culinary preparations such as pickles, chutneys, jams, and juices. They are rich in vitamin C, containing significantly higher levels than citrus fruits like oranges. Amla also contains other essential nutrients like iron, calcium, phosphorus, and antioxidants

In Ayurvedic medicine, Amla is considered a Rasayan
