Hadjod, also known as Cissus quadrangularis, is a fleshy plant widely used in traditional Indian medicine for cooking and therapeutic purposes. It is native to hot and arid regions of India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Africa. Hadjod has various local names including “Pirantai” in Tamil, “Nalleru” in Telugu, “Cannalamparanta” in Malayalam, and “Mangarahalli” in Kannada. The plant grows up to a height of 1.5 meters with branches splitting into four parts or a quadrangular arrangement. All parts of Hadjod are edible, with the stem and leaves being used traditionally for cooking and therapeutic purposes.
