About The Book : Tamerlane enjoys a level of fame in France that rivals that of European heroes. Consequently, the author, in recounting Tamerlane's story, delves into intricate details that can only be found in the Mogul Chronicle. The author's focus remains solely on depicting Tamerlane's achievements in the Indies and the particular form of governance he established following his conquests in that region. About The Author: Francois Catrou hailed from a well-connected family in Paris, with his father serving as secretary to Louis XIV. He joined the Society of Jesus in 1677, where he honed his skills in preaching and writing. In 1701, he became one of the original editors of the journal Mémoires pour l'Histoire des Sciences & des beaux-Arts, commonly known as the Mémoires de Trévoux. During this period, he authored various historical works, including a comprehensive history of the Mughal dynasty, as well as the present work. The latter was initially published in French between 1725 and 1737, spanning 21 umes. While criticized for its writing style, it garnered immense respect for its scholarly contributions. The book was later translated into Italian by Fra Zannino Marsecco and into English by Richard Bundy, who would later serve as a Chaplain in Ordinary to George II from 1732.
