Limonia acidissima is the only species within the monotypic genus Limonia. Common names for the species in English include wood-apple and elephant-apple. Wood apple is a common name for several trees of Aurantioideae with edible fruits and may refer to : Aegle marmelos ("Bael" in Hindi), a tree native to India. The Wood Apple (woodapple) is a fantastic fruit with a really funny smell. The fruit is like a delicious tamarind and raisin jam.
