Coleus is generally grown as an ornamental plant for its colorful foliage available in green, purple, yellow, orange, and red.

Coleus likes rich and well-drained soil but not dry. So water requirements are normal.

HOW TO GROW

•Coleus seeds can be easily grown in pots.

•Ideal Temperature - 15° to 25°C.

•Sowing Time - February to March or September to October.

•Start by making a mixture of 50% cocopeat, 50% garden soil.

•Place the seeds on the top of the soil and spread 1/4 - 1/2 inches layer of cocopeat over it. Gently press to stable the placement of seeds.

•Mist the soil daily to keep it moist until the seeds germinate but do not overwater.

•Keep in partial shade.

•Germination time - 8 to 12 days.

•Transplant only when 5 to 6 true leaves come out or after 30 days.

•For transplantation make a soil mixture of 50%garden soil, 40% cocopeat, and 10% vermicompost.

•Place in partial sunlight with maximum time in shade because excessive sunlight can fade the leaf colors.
