For a traditional sewing machine with a half shuttle mechanism, the tension settings play a critical role in ensuring smooth and even stitching. The tension is primarily controlled by two key components :  

Top Thread Tension : This regulates the tightness of the thread coming from the spool and passes through the needle.

Bobbin Tension : This controls the tension on the thread from the bobbin, which moves through the shuttle and forms the stitch with the top thread.

The bobbin tension is usually adjusted by the small screw on the bobbin case. Start by turning it slightly to increase or decrease tension.

If find that the stitch is too loose on the bottom (visible bobbin thread loops), tighten the bobbin tension by turning the screw clockwise.

If the bottom stitch is too tight, loosen the screw by turning it counterclockwise.
