Ensure complete coverage of the surface, but avoid applying the gesso too thickly, as this can lead to cracking once it dries.

Allow to Dry : Let the first layer of gesso dry completely before applying additional coats. Depending on the thickness of the gesso and environmental conditions, this may take anywhere from 30 minutes to a few hours. You can use a hairdryer to speed up the drying process if necessary.

Sand and Repeat (Optional) : If you want a smoother surface or need additional coverage, you can lightly sand the surface once the first layer of gesso is dry. Then, apply another layer of gesso and repeat the drying process. Multiple thin coats are often preferable to one thick coat for achieving a smooth, even surface.
