*The Absinthe Drinker* (Angel Fernández) (1903)- Here we see Angel Fernández (Picasso's friend) sitting in a bar. Picasso frequently returned to the theme of a solitary seated woman, inspired by the portraits of French Post-Impressionist painter Paul Cézanne. This painting is part of a small collection of works done in the fall and winter of 1909–10, and it demonstrates Picasso's desire to blend the figure with its surroundings by blurring the lines between volumetric forms and empty spaces.
