*The Women of Algiers* (1955)- Here, Picasso has twisted the bodies of the women seated in the foreground into unimaginable contortions, presenting the viewer with both front and back views at the same time. Picasso's enthusiasm for Henri Matisse, who specialised in depicting women in such unusual clothing, is also evident in the emphasis on the odalisque. Picasso became interested in this theme after Matisse's death.
