Anandamath is a Bengali historical novel, written by Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay and published in 1882. It is inspired by and set in the background of the Sannyasi Rebellion and Great Bengal famine of 1770.It is considered one of the most important novels in the history of Bengali and Indian literature. आनंदमठ एक असाधारण राजनीतिक उपन्यास है। महाकाव्यात्मक आयामों वाला यह कथानक अठारहवीं शताब्दी के उत्तरार्ध में संन्यासी विद्रोह पर आधारित है। तमाम बाधाओं के बावजूद संन्यासियों ने अंग्रेजों से लड़ाई लड़ी, जिन्हें वे देश का कट्टर दुश्मन मानते थे और 1772 के भयानक अकाल के लिए जिम्मेदार मानते थे। इस उपन्यास में बंकिम ने - बंदे मातरम - मातृभूमि की जय - भी लिखा और भारत को उसका पहला राष्ट्रीय गीत दिया जो बाद में राष्ट्रीय स्वतंत्रता आंदोलन का एक आह्वान बन गया।
