This is a small flowering tree, which has both religious and cultural significance in India. It is also used in traditional medicine. It produces stunning orchid like white flowers throughout the spring and summer, even when not in flower, the shrub/tree has attractive lobed leaves characteristic of all Bauhinia species. Medicinal properties-Bark is astringent, used in dysentery. Leaves with onions are used in diarrhoea and the decoction of leaves is used in malaria.
