The curry leaves plant (Bergera koenigii or Murraya koenigii) is a small, aromatic, evergreen tree or shrub native to the tropical and subtropical regions of India and Sri Lanka. It is widely cultivated for its highly fragrant leaves, which are a staple in South Asian cuisine, often referred to as "Kadi Patta" or "Sweet Neem".
Physical Characteristics
Size & Shape : Typically grows as a small tree or shrub reaching 4–6 metres (13–20 ft) in height, with a trunk up to 40 cm in diameter.
Foliage : The plant has compound, pinnate leaves, each consisting of 11–21 small leaflets. These leaflets are glossy, dark green on the top, and paler on the underside, measuring approximately 2–4 cm in length.
Flowers : It produces clusters of small, fragrant white flowers.
Fruit : The flowers develop into small, shiny black berries (drupes) that are edible and sweet in flavor. However, the seeds are poisonous to humans and must be removed before consumption.
