The drumstick plant, also known as the moringa tree, has many interesting characteristics :  

Appearance

The drumstick tree is a medium-sized, fast-growing, deciduous tree with a whitish-gray bark and an open crown of fragile branches.

Flowers

The drumstick tree has fragrant, hermaphroditic flowers that are white to cream in color, and about 1–1.5 cm long and 2 cm broad.

Fruit

The drumstick tree's fruit is a 3-valved capsule that looks like a drumstick and is often referred to as a “pod”. The fruit is green when young and turns brown at maturity.

Seeds

The seeds of the drumstick tree are rounded and oily, and contain a large amount of oil.

Nutritional value

The drumstick tree is rich in nutrients, including vitamins A and C, , and calcium. The leaves are said to have seven times more vitamins than oranges, three times more calcium than milk, and 36 times more magnesium than eggs.

Uses

The leaves of the drumstick tree can be eaten fresh or dried and powdered, and the pods can be cooked and eaten. The soft pods are also used in the preparation of sambhar, a popular dish in South India.
