The plot unwraps itself with the letter that Balram writes in seven consecutive nights and the letter is addressed to the Chinese Premier, named Wen Jiabao. The story that he narrates is that of a poor servant who had come to a city from a rural set-up in search of a job. The story depicts how he manages to escape from his state of servitude and becomes successful in starting a business that eventually brings him wealth and glory. The White Tiger also focuses on factors like poverty, class distinction, religious fanaticism, caste discrimination and other issues that mire the Indian society. In this story, Balram leaves his rural place to come to Delhi in search of a job. There, he works as a chauffeur before he actually steals his master's money, kills him and then leaves for Bangalore.
