The Ipomoea flower, commonly known as Morning Glory, belongs to the Convolvulaceae family and is renowned for its vibrant, trumpet-shaped blooms that open early in the morning and typically fade by afternoon. These hermaphroditic, radially symmetrical flowers usually appear solitary or in small cymes and range from 3 to 5 inches in diameter. Petal colors include shades of blue, purple, pink, red, white, or bicolors, with popular varieties like Ipomoea purpurea, Ipomoea tricolor (‘Heavenly Blue’), and Ipomoea nil. The flower features five fused petals forming a funnel-shaped corolla, five stamens attached to the corolla (epipetalous), and a single pistil with a superior ovary formed by two fused carpels. Sepals are small and green, forming a persistent calyx. Morning Glories are typically pollinated by bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds, drawn to the nectar at the base of the floral tube. The plant produces a dry capsule fruit containing 4–6 hard-coated seeds that can remain viable for years, often requiring scarification or soaking for germination. Blooming from late spring to fall, Morning Glories are celebrated not just for their ornamental beauty but also for their symbolism of renewal and fleeting beauty.
