Pallanguzhi is a traditional two-player board game from South India. It's also known as Pallanguli or Aligulimane. The game is played on a board with two rows of seven holes, or cups. The objective is to capture as many pieces as possible.
The game is believed to have been invented by the Chola dynasty. It was once a common sight in the backyards of South Indian family homes. It's also believed to have been mentioned in the Ramayana.
The game is played by dropping seeds into the pits on the board. The starting player lifts the counters from any of their holes and distributes one counter in each hole, going counter-clockwise. If they reach the end of their cups, they go on their opponent's side of the board.
The game is said to enhance coordination, memory, observation skills, maths, and motor skills. It can be played as a marathon affair during festivals like Sivarathri and Vaikunda Ekadasi.
