*** 'Mulberry Tree' (1889) shows a tree from the garden of the mental asylum Gogh's sent to, after he admittedly cut his own ear. No matter what was happening in life, whether Gogh's living in a house or with a friend, or a patient in a mental hospital, all he could do was carry on and paint. It is believed that in one of the letters van wrote to his brother Theo, he expressed that this particular painting was his personal favorite.
