Plant dahlia seeds indoors 6–8 weeks before the last frost. Fill seed trays with well-draining potting soil and sow seeds ¼ inch deep. Keep the soil moist and maintain temperatures around 70°F (21°C) for germination, which takes 7–14 days. Once seedlings have 2–3 sets of leaves, transplant them into larger pots or directly into the garden after the last frost.
