The Ixora is a genus of tropical to semi-tropical evergreen shrubs known for their large, showy clusters of small, four-petaled, tubular flowers. Commonly called Jungle Flame or West Indian Jasmine, it is a popular ornamental plant in warm climates and a member of the coffee family (Rubiaceae).
Description
Ixora plants feature dense, multi-branched growth with glossy, leathery, dark green leaves that are typically 3 to 6 inches long. The flowers appear in dense, rounded clusters (cymes) at the tips of the stems, creating a striking "puffball" effect. These vibrant blooms come in shades of bright red, orange, yellow, pink, and white and can last for several weeks. The plant produces small, round, dark purple to black fruits that are edible when ripe.
