About the Book : - The Chahar Maqala is the interest of its contents for it contains the only contemporary account of Umar Khayyam and the oldest known account of Firdawsi, while many of the anecdotes are derived from the author’s own experience, or were orally communicated to him by persons who had direct knowledge of the facts. The book is therefore one of the most important original sources for our knowledge of the literary and scientific conditions which prevailed in Persia for the two or three centuries preceding its composition, Fifteen such blunders, some of them of the grossest character, have been enumerated by Mirza Muhammad in the preface to the text and some of these are fully discussed in Notes IV, V, VIII and XXI at the end of this volume. About the Author:-Edward Granville Browne (1862 –1926) was a British Iranologist. He published numerous articles and books, mainly in the areas of history and literature. Browne published in areas which few other Western scholars had explored. Many of his publications are related to Iran, either in the fields of history or Persian literature. He is perhaps best known for his documentation and historical narratives of Bábism as relayed by Arthur de Gobineau. He published two translations of Bábí histories, and wrote several of the few Western accounts of early Bábí and Bahá?í history. He was born in Stouts Hill, Uley, Gloucestershi
