Description

The term "rudraksha" comes from two Sanskrit words : "Rudra", which is another name for Lord Shiva, and "Aksha", which means teardrops. The beads are believed to have originated as Shiva's tears.

Care

Rudraksha malas should be handled gently and kept safe from harm. They can be worn all the time, including while sleeping or showering. However, they should not be worn in warm water with chemical soaps, as this can make them brittle and cause them to crack. To condition a rudraksha mala, you can soak it in ghee for 24 hours, then soak it in full fat milk for 24 hours, and finally wipe it with a clean cloth and smear it with vibhuti.
