Shilajit is classified as Maharasa (an important drug) under the Ayurvedic system of medicine. It is formed by the decomposition of plant & organic matter under extremely high pressure & temperature over centuries & oozes out as resin from rocky layers of high-altitude Himalayan mountains.

Being a natural exudation, the resin in its natural form, contains many contaminants, thus it is necessary to purify the Shilajit before using it for therapeutic purposes.

Shilajit contains more than 80 minerals in ionic form, predominantly known as Fulvic acid. The higher the percentage of fulvic acid the better it is.
