Ellunda / Sesame Chikki is made from Sesame seeds (Gingelly seeds) which is one of the oldest oil seed crops. Sesame seeds are known as ‘ ellu ‘ in Malayalam. Sesame seeds mixed with heated jaggery is made into balls similar to peanut brittle and eaten as snacks. The Sesame seeds are especially high in copper, manganese, calcium, magnesium and dietary fiber. Sesame seeds also reduce bad cholesterol and balance good cholesterol. Sesame seed balls or ‘ ellunda ‘ can be used as a mid meal snack instead of biscuits and chips. Sesame seed balls are healthy and very tasty snacks for children
