Shikakai powder can be used for hair and skin in a number of ways, including as a shampoo, in a hair mask, or in a face wash :  

As a shampoo

Mix 1 tablespoon of shikakai powder with 1 cup of water, boil for 5–7 minutes, cool, and apply to hair and scalp. Massage the roots for 5 minutes, leave on for 15 minutes, and rinse with plain water.

In a hair mask

Mix 2–3 tablespoons of shikakai powder with half a cup of coconut milk to form a thin paste. Apply to hair and scalp, leave on for 15–20 minutes.

In a hair pack

Mix shikakai with yogurt and massage into hair. Wash out after 15–20 minutes.

For dry and dandruff-affected hair

Mix half a cup of shikakai with one cup of amla powder and one cup of lukewarm water. Let it sit for 1–2 hours, then apply to hair and wash out after 30 minutes.

In a face wash

Add shikakai powder to a face wash along with other natural ingredients like turmeric or neem powder.

Shikakai is a natural surfactant that can cleanse hair follicles, remove greasiness, and make hair softer and shinier. However, using shikakai soap too often can dry out skin or make the scalp oily.
