Jowar is one of the important fodder cereal crops cultivated across India, Sorghum popularly known as “Jowar” in India. The advantage of this cereal crop is that it can be cultivated in both Kharif and Rabi season. The nutritional value of sorghum is same as of that of corn and that is why it is gaining importance as livestock feed. Sorghum is very nutritious just like corn and can be used as green fodder, dry fodder, hay or silage. A spacing of 40-45 cm between the rows and 15-20 cm between the plants is quite satisfactory. Seed rate : Required plant population may be obtained by using a seed rate of 8-12 kg/ha. The seeds are sown about 3-4 cm deep in the furrows. First harvest may on 70-80th days after sowing is good. Don’t harvest on 45 days and below because of it having at the time more HCN Content.
