At the Bateau-Lavoir, she was a part of his bohemian lifestyle. With a mantilla headpiece adorned with a mauve flower, Picasso transformed the gorgeous Italian into a Spanish girl. Madame Canals' image marks the start of a more traditional period defined by formal equilibrium.
